New Technique

Hi Stampers!
The wonderful stampers over at Handstamped Sentiments selected my "Mom" card as one of their top 3 for the challenge last week!  I'm so excited!

I decided that I needed to join their challenge again this week!  What is the challenge this week?  A new technique they are calling "black magic".  Basically, it is a way to stamp on your black card stock and let your colors show through.  It looks really neat- you can check it out:
To get the look you stamp your image onto the black card stock with the craft white Stampin' Pad (or another light color), let it dry (if you are more patient than I am) and then color over with your watercolor pencils.  Pretty, isn't it?  Well, I cheated.  I wanted a more vibrant look than the watercolor pencils were giving me we I pulled out my handy dandy Stampin' Pastels and had at it.  Let me show you the difference:
When I look at the photograph uploaded onto my computer I can see that the watercolor pencil draft on the left is really quite pretty and tidier than the pastels on the right.  In the poor lighting in my workshop you could barely see the color, hence the use of the pastels.  If it would ever stop raining here maybe I'll get some better lighting!  Until then, pastels for me!
I will get back with my supply list in the morning so please check back!  I also have the retired stamp list available for you!
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Okay I'm jealous--your cherry card is WAY CUTER than mine! I love the look of the pastels & your layout is fabulous! So happy you joined us again at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

  2. Wow, the pastels really do make a difference! But I like both samples. The black and white diamond pattern is very striking behind those bold cherries! Thanks so much for playing again with Hand Stamped Sentiments! Erika. P.s. don't worry about the rain, you know what they say about April flowers ;)

  3. Congratulations on being the Artist Pick! This card is so fun. It reminds me of a black and white floor at a malt shop. That may sound crazy, but with the cherries (which are too cute) and the diamond pattern background I had an immediate craving for a chocolate shake with whip cream and a cherry on top :0) Smiles, Elizabeth

  4. Great color combo and love the great layout- just perfect for the cherries!!! Very Cute!! Thanks for playing along with the black magic technique at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week, Diane

  5. Great card! Love your background. This is such a cute card. Congrats on being the chosen card last week! Thanks for playing with us again at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

  6. I love the black and white background. I'll have to case it. Love the cherries image. Thanks so much for playing at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

  7. Mary this is sooooo beautiful and that background with the black and white is AMAZING! Thanks so much for playing with us at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week! I can't wait to see more of your work in the future!

  8. This card is so cool! I love the tile look on the background and the little cherries are the perfect fit for your card, too. Thanks for joining us at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

  9. I prefer the pastels myself when using this technique...and am in LOVE with your background, so striking with the pop of colors! Thanks for playing along this week too, we love seeing your beautiful creations over at Hand Stamped Sentiments! :)
